Road To Suchness

The entrance to Rt. 66 Diner in Albuquerque still going strong after all these years. the food is good, too.

Route 66 Diner

If you are cruising through Albuquerque on Route 66 you might consider stopping for a meal from the past at the 66 Diner. Step through the door and you step back  in time to the golden age of the 1950’s. I found the restaurant by chance, (along with a jukebox and a long soda fountain)  on Central Avenue, just West of I-25.  I was a little lost that day.  That’s not uncommon for me when I am on a mission in Albuquerque. Sometimes being a little lost can lead to adventures.

And I would say the 66 Diner is an adventure.  In the bygone days of Route 66 the building was actually home to a Phillips 66.  You could stop here for gas. Or you could get your car serviced for any mishaps you’d had along the route.  Then, in 1987, it was turned into a restaurant by the same family that still owns it.  And that is still turning out some amazing and creative food.

Burgers....And More!

I had my heart set on having a garden burger that day.  Or maybe I also didn’t realize just how creative they get with their menu.  They have several burger versions on the menu.  Any one of these versions they will make with a garden patty for you.  Any burger that is on the menu they will make with a garden patty.  So, Diego’s Diamond Back Burger and the BBQ Bacon and Cheddar can both be made with a garden burger.  For those who want nothing to do with garden burgers check out the beef varieties here: https://www.66diner.com/menus/

Don't Forget the Milkshakes

Before you go, how about dessert?  This is the kind of place that probably has great milkshakes.  Like a 66 Diner Pink Cadillac.  Or the Elvis (peanut butter and banana).  Or you can try malts, floats, ice cream  sodas.  Every month they have a pie special.

This would be a great choice if you are in Albuquerque for the International Balloon Festival:  https://roadtosuchness.com/albuquerque-international-balloon-festival/   I really need to go back some day for an all out splurge.
