Canyon Road.. A Magical Half Mile

There is a lot I can say about Canyon Road.  First, there are a bounty of artist studios, art galleries.  Then, there are the fashion boutiques and great restaurants.  It all makes for a great way to spend a day in Santa Fe, or at least a few hours.

This is what I do, at least two or three times a year.  It is a ritual now and one I look forward to.  I wait until the wild Spring winds here settle into soothing breezes and the air spoils you with soft temperatures.  And again in the Fall when the leaves start to turn.  I’m reminded that it’s that time again for my morning walk up Canyon Road.  I get up early and grab my camera.  I park at the bottom of the road and the beginning of the galleries.  By the time I reach the top, a short half mile, I have already spent a couple hours quenching my curiosity.  There is always something new, changes, a new surprise in the familiar.  And I never come home with the same picture.

Santa Fe is known to be the center of the arts in he Southwest.  Canyon Road began as an artist colony in the early Twentieth Century and grew into the heart of the art district in Santa Fe.  It is only a short enjoyable walk from the center of town and the hotels and inns of Santa Fe.  You’ll find some amazing galleries along the entire walk.  But let your eyes lead you into the side streets, the neighborhoods.  There you will find smaller studio artists and a taste of local life in Santa Fe.

Sometimes when I read my favorite blogs, I will read a whole post.   Sometimes I read only parts.  But there is one thing that I always do.   I look at all the pictures!  As for my  walks, hopefully these pictures tell a story of the art and neighborhoods of Canyon Road in Santa Fe.

There is so much going on along that magical half mile.  Still, my best advise is to savor. At least once, take it slow, as I do on my early morning walks.  And if you happen to be here during the right time or find time to come back,  I am including a great site.  It includes different things that go on during the year: https://www.visitcanyonroad.com/
