Miami Four Seasons Surfside…at the Champagne Bar

The Miami Four Seasons Surfside is only a short ride north of Miami Beach.  We ventured up after a long and interesting morning visit to see the art deco buildings on Miami Beach:  https://roadtosuchness.com/miami-beach-art-deco/ The plan was to meet up with a friend  at the Champagne Bar.  This is one time I can say I was glad the friend we were meeting was late.  I got to take all the time I needed to wander around and check out all the beautiful corners that this hotel has.  And then come back and relax awhile in what I decided must be one of the best bars in Miami: https://www.fourseasons.com/surfside/dining/lounges/the-champagne-bar/

Yep! Best Bar in Miami

From the moment it opened its doors in 1930 until it closed them again in 2013, the hotel, then called the Surf Club, was hopping with history.  At that time it was a members only club.  And its members included such noteworthy guests as Winston Churchill, Elizabeth Taylor and Frank Sinatra.  (Note:  Churchill seemed to have gotten around when he made his wartime visit.  He also is alleged to have eaten at Caps, another restaurant with history in Ft. Lauderdale. And a favorite of mine to be sure: https://roadtosuchness.comcaps-a-restaurant-with-history/

It made sense.   Members only could enjoy their glamorous evenings and sunny days without always  being in the eyes of the public.

A Little History

So what happened when they closed the  Surf Club in 2013?

To begin with, construction began of 77 luxury guest rooms.  And that’s not all.  There are also 119 private residences.  (Such is life in South Florida.)  But the important thing is that the original structure was not torn down.  It is still the very heart of the hotel and residences.  Enter through the hotel lobby and seating area.  There is still the main corridor that leads to the elevators, originally called Peacock Alley.

And, of course, you can still be a guest at the Lido Restaurant.  And  the Champagne Bar, where Patrick had a bourbon and me, a glass of Chardonnay.  I sipped on it outside as we waited,  overlooking the pool and watching the ocean beyond.  No hurries at all.  So you find yourself  looking for one of the best bars in Miami?  Go no further.  Think of the Champagne Bar at Four Seasons Hotel at the Surf Club,  Surfside, Miami.
