We were at the Hacienda del Sol, not for the views, but to have a special dinner. https://www.haciendadelsol.com/ Everywhere I read about the Hacienda del Sol, it got rave reviews. We were inviting my sister, Alison and her husband Randy, so I wanted it to be special. As it turned out, it was a special evening, but not solely for the food we ordered. It was the hotel itself, the grounds and the views that really captured my attention.
A Little History of the Past
If you want to be immersed in truly feeling the Southwest, try a vist to Hacienda del Sol. It is situated in the Sonoran Desert and surrounded by some awesome mountains…the Santa Catalina. Just like I get from my dining room window in Santa Fe, you can see some awesome sunsets. at the Hacienda del Sol. Originally, way back in the 1930’s, the hotel was a ranch retreat for girls. In 1944 it became a guest ranch for the Hollywood elite. Forward to the 1990’s when it began to evolve into the resort it is today.
If you are on your way to powder you nose, check out the old photographs of fun times that adorn the walls.
If you are visiting Tucson, it is worth a visit to the foothills of the Hacienda del Sol. (Good pick after a morning visiting the saguaros https://roadtosuchness.com/tucson-saguaro-national-park/ There are different dining options. We were at the Terraza Garden Patio and Lounge. In good weather, it is opened and al fresco. The night we were there, there was live music. (The Bar, in an adjoining area, was beside itself and hopping.)
Finally, below is my sole photograph of what I ordered that evening at the Terraza Garden Patio and Lounge at the Hacienda del Sol. Shown here is a veggie version of tostados on blue corn tortillas. Michael ordered enchiladas. It was interesting to discover that they have an on site organic garden. The food was good and that’s why we were there. But honesly, what wowed up the most was the setting, the place. I would love to go back!
