Hotel La Posada Santa Fe

La Posada Santa Fe

We stayed at the Hotel La Posada  Santa Fe for the six days when we visited Guanajuato.  http://www.posadasantafe.mx  Guanajuato is a colonial city and we wanted to stay in a hotel that was true to the character of it’s surroundings.  This is an old building, built in the middle of the 19th century, which for many years served as the Consulate of Prussia.  (I knew by the ceramic plaque on the wall on the back of the building by the parking entrance.)  It has been a hotel since the 1860’s.

From our room on the second floor, in the back of the building, we could hear the pulse of the city.  There was life in the narrow street under the balcony.  We were serenaded with church bells in the morning.  La Posada Santa Fe is in the very heart of Guanajuato.  Everything was within walking distance and easy to find.  Returning from our outings, resting, going back out again for meals and more exploring made up our days.  We loved the energy and activities in the evenings and in contrast, the quiet in the mornings.

Staff at La Posada de Santa Fe was super nice, always available, always helpful.  This is an old hotel, not modern but comfortable, with a large, cozy room and everything we needed.  I loved the tiled walls in the bathroom.  Parking is available if you come with a vehicle.

We were probably one of the few people who stay at the hotel who want to check out the rooftop.  There was supposed to be a little pool.  And there was: one of those small plastic pools for children.  Careful you don’t trip over it.  But getting back to the rooftop:  The view was spectacular, a different perspective of our surroundings.  How beautiful!

Noise level in all the rooms facing the front of the hotel (El Jardin de la Union) is pretty bad.  That of course unless you like a party atmosphere and you don’t wind down until 2 a.m.  We were changed, at my request. I was pretty adamant about it!…And the hotel was very accommodating.  We were moved from a front room to one in the back of the building.

Note:  In our nightime wanderings around the city we by chance came upon a restaurant and had a very nice meal at the Hotel Alonso 10 Boutique.  It is in the same central area, just a few quick steps to the Jardin, but it is on a quieter street. http://hotelalonso10.com.mx/

And if you are planning on visiting San Miguel de Allende we loved where we stayed: La Casa Luna Boutique Hotel. You can read the post about our stay at the hotel in San Miguel here:  https://roadtosuchness.com?p=6291
